Cupcake Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • Zest of 1 orange

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Orange food coloring

Decorations:

  • 6 chocolate wafer cookies
  • 6 chocolate-covered ice cream cones
  • Black fondant

Instructions:

    1. Preheat your 6-Count Cupcake Maker

    2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

    3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

    4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, and mix until just combined. Fold in the orange zest.

    5. Spoon the batter into each cupcake liner, filling each one about two-thirds full. Close the cupcake maker and bake for approximately 8-10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

    6. While the cupcakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, orange juice, and vanilla extract, and continue beating until smooth. Add orange food coloring for the desired shade.

    7. Once the cupcakes are completely cool, frost each one generously with the orange frosting.

    8. To create the whimsical witch hats, roll out the black fondant to about 1/4-inch thickness. Using a sharp knife or a fondant cutter, cut out circles slightly larger than the top of the ice cream cones. Place each fondant circle on top of the cone to create the hat shape.

    9. Carefully place a chocolate wafer cookie on top of each frosted cupcake. Gently place a fondant witch hat on top of each cookie.

    10. Use additional fondant to create small accents, such as buckles or stars, to add extra detail to the witch hats.
